World Menopause Day

October 18

World Menopause Day raises awareness of what menopause is, its symptoms and to reduce the stigma of talking about menopause across society.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s a global awareness day!

How do people celebrate?

People and organisations celebrate via education events about menopause, raising awareness about symptoms and how you can support people going through menopause.

What should I know?

  • Symptoms of menopause include hot flushes, night sweats, difficulty sleeping, mood changes, anxiety, memory and concentration problems
  • The symptoms can last 4-5 years
  • In the UK, the average age for a woman to reach menopause is 51.

How can I support others?

  • Create a work environment where women can feel that menopause disclosure won’t lead to negative consequences
  • Show understanding and patience for those experiencing symptoms and use the additional resources to educate yourself on how they feel
  • If you know a colleague or service user is experiencing symptoms, don’t draw attention to them
  • Don’t doubt or diminish someone’s experience. Menopause symptoms are real and can be grave.
