Human Rights Day

December 10

Human Rights Day is on the 10th of December as this is when the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. Human rights are rights which everyone has regardless, of nationality, race, religion, gender, sex, language or political opinion. There is a focus on upholding our rights and supporting the protection of the rights of others. ‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights’ is at the core of UDHR and Human rights day.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s an international awareness day!

How do people celebrate?

  • People and organisations celebrate by raising awareness about human rights and those that are affected around the world
  • People promote awareness through social media, educational events and expression walls where people write what human rights means to them.

What should I know?

How can I support others?

  • Familiarise with your own rights, the rights of your employees, service users and communities
  • Have open discussions about human rights and discuss how your organisation supports everyone’s rights.
