Carers’ Rights Day

November 23

Carers’ Rights Day aims to ensure that carers are aware of their rights, know where to get help and support and raises awareness of the needs of carers.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s a national awareness day!

How do people celebrate?

People and organisations celebrate by raising awareness about benefits and rights of carers, honouring role models who are carers in their organisations and ensuring they are supporting service users who are carers.

What should I know?

  • Carers are vital to our communities and society but not all carers know their rights
  • 1 in 8 people in the UK are carers (roughly 6.5 million people)
  • 42% of carers are men
  • Carers save the economy £132 billion per year
  • Carers’ allowance is £66.15 for a minimum of 35 hours

How can I support others?

  • Ensure that your volunteers, employees and service users are aware of the support you provide for carers in your organisation
  • Share information internally and externally about carer’s rights in the UK
  • Talk to your team members who are carers and find out what you can do as a team to support their wellbeing
  • If you are or have been a carer, share your experiences with your colleagues and the support you’ve found most helpful.
