Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s an international awareness day!

How do people celebrate?

People and organisations celebrate via education events to raise awareness about modern slavery and how you can support people who have experienced modern slavery.

What should I know?

  • It is estimated that roughly 21 – 40 million people are held in modern slavery globally
  • In 2017, it was estimated that there could be at least 100,000 victims of modern slavery in the UK
  • Human trafficking is considered as the acquisition of a person by means of deception or coercion for the purpose of exploitation
  • It is estimated that traffickers make $150 billion in profits each year
  • 10% of those in forced labour are in state-imposed forms such as prisons or work imposed by the military).

How can I support others?

  • Use the additional resources to educate yourself further on modern slavery and encourage awareness and understanding in your organisation
  • Encourage celebrations internally and externally
  • Discuss with your team issues surrounding modern slavery and what your team could do to help stop slavery.
