Volunteers Week

June 1 - June 7

This week celebrates the contributions made by volunteers across the UK. Throughout the week blogs, stories and awards showcase the difference the volunteers make to charities and the UK society as a whole.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s a national awareness week!

How do people celebrate?

  • People and organisations celebrate the contribution of volunteers and take the opportunity to show their appreciation
  • This can be done by giving awards to your volunteers, having a party, giving them thank you cards, hanging thank you banners or showing appreciation on social media.

What should I know?

  • 36% of people in the UK volunteered formally in 2019
  • Over 50% of people volunteer informally
  • The most common reason for volunteering is wanting to help others
  • The most common reason for not volunteering is work commitments.

How can I support others?

  • Thank your volunteers for their contribution
  • Share stories of a diversity of volunteers internally and externally
  • Talk to your team about any additional opportunities for volunteers and remember, any team can have a volunteer
  • Talk about the diversity of your volunteers with your team and how you can ensure it’s representative of the community you serve.
