Mental Health Awareness Week

October 6 - October 12

Mental health awareness week aims to promote an understanding of what mental health is and knowledge of how to support good mental wellbeing.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s a national awareness week!

How do people celebrate?

  • People and organisations celebrate by raising awareness about mental health issues, recognising the importance of having good mental health and ensuring that individuals are receive the support they need
  • You can also connect to this year’s theme once it’s announced.

What should I know?

  • 1 in 4 people every year experience a mental health problem in England
  • 1 in 6 people report a ‘common’ mental health problem each week (e.g. depression, anxiety)
  • Each year there is a different theme – keep an eye on this page to find out the theme for 2022.

How can I support others?

  • Take care of your own mental health first
  • Take time to consider how your organisation supports the mental health of your employees and service users
  • Talk to your team about mental health and discuss personal experiences if they feel comfortable to share
  • Take the opportunity to make sure your people know the resources available to support them
  • Recognise when someone may need professional support.
