Bi Visibility Day

September 23

Bi Visibility Day raises awareness of bisexuality and the challenges that bisexual people face, whilst celebrating the profile of bisexual role models, and campaigners.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s a national awareness day!

How do people celebrate?

  • People celebrate this event through discussions, workshops, and conferences that highlight the history and culture of the bisexual community and address the issues faced by it
  • LGBT+ organisations hold public outreach and education programs where they inform the public about the rights of bisexual people.

What should I know?

  • Bi-sexuality means have a romantic and/or sexual attraction to more than one gender
  • According to ONS 0.8% of people identify as bi-sexual in the UK
  • 30% of bi men and 8% of bi women feel they can’t be open about their sexuality.

How can I support others?

  • Use the term partner when you first meet someone
  • Don’t assume someone’s previous/future partner will be the same sex as their current or previous one
  • Don’t assume that all bisexual people are incapable of being monogamous and that they are sexually confused because they can’t decide if they’re gay or straight
  • Use the term people use to describe themselves
  • Use the additional resources to learn about bisexuality.
