Alcohol Awareness Week

July 3 - July 9

Alcohol Awareness Week is a campaign to raise awareness about alcohol addiction. It aims to have open conversations about alcohol and highlight when individuals may need support. There is also a call for change surrounding drinking culture.

Who celebrates?

Everyone – it’s a national awareness week.

How do people celebrate?

People and organisations celebrate by raising awareness of men’s physical and mental health challenges, recognising that true gender equality means equality for both sexes and celebrating the men who represent authentic gender inclusion.

What should I know?

  • In the UK, it is estimated that there are 586,780 dependent drinkers
  • Alcoholism is considered a form of drinking problem in which a person has a strong and often uncontrollable desire to drink
  • Common signs of alcoholism are a lack of interest in previously normal activities, mental health problems, drinking regularly and an inability to refuse alcohol
  • Each year there is a different theme – keep an eye on this page for this year’s theme.

How can I support others?

  • Talk to your team about alcohol addiction and discuss personal experiences if they feel comfortable to share
  • Take the opportunity to make sure your people know the resources available to support them
  • Recognise when someone may need professional support.
